Blues Underground Network guru Earl Krushelnicki has already made his New Years Resolution to make 2009 the best year yet for Prince George blues fans. Paul Kype is kicking off the season by bringing his unique guitar stylings to the Treasure Cove Casino on Jan. 31.

The masterful guitarist plays the music of top artists (his early influences include guitar legends Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn) with great precision but still manages to put his own stamp on every song.

Best known for his sensational solos that have won him rave reviews and the respect of fellow musicians and scores of fans, he’s also no stranger to touring bands.

Originally from Chilliwack, Kype played with his first band Legal Tender for three years before touring with cover bands throughout western Canada. When Texas Flood first came together in 1993, its original members included Jerry Adolphe on drums and Simon Hardman on bass. In 1998 Texas Flood became a regular Monday night feature at the Yale Hotel in Vancouver.

They played there for three years and also toured B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan. While still a member of Texas Flood, Kype became sideman for Jerry Doucette and continues to be featured with the band. These two guitar masters are said to be a formidable duo on stage.

Other side ventures include a full festival tour with slide player, Freddie Roulette, in the summer of 2000. Two years later, Kype moved to Lethbridge, Alberta where he began working on a duo project with Leah Marie King. The project morphed into Blue Shift. As Texas Flood matures, Kype draws on his old friends the “three Kings” – Albert King, Freddie King and BB King – as well as the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, who first inspired Kype to form his band Texas Flood.

Tickets to the Paul Kype and Texas Flood concert Jan. 31 are available at Books and Company and Treasure Cove Casino front desk. Price of ticket includes a buffet supper.
