Johnny Ferreira kicks off Blues Underground season Johnny Ferreira -- that honkin' and screamin' tenor saxophonist from Vancouver -- returns to Prince George for a pair of September shows to kick off the 2008-09 Blues Underground Network season.
"We thought we'd open the season with a bang," said Earl Krushelnicki, president of the network's local chapter. "He's extremely entertaining."
As fans who saw one of Ferreira's two shows last fall at the Treasure Cove Showroom will attest.
Ferreira, who also performed with Prism at CN Centre in 2004, played alongside Colin James and The Little Big Band in the 1980s and '90s. He has recorded several solo CDs and is a multiple Maple Blues player-of-the-year award winner, as recognized by the Toronto Blues Society.
Like last time, Ferreira will be joined onstage by guitarist Lindsay Mitchell, the founder of Prism, and drummer Marko Ibarra, who regularly plays with Jerry Doucette.
Show dates are Sept. 19 and 20. Tickets for the dinner buffet/dance are $30, or $25 for Blues Underground members, available at Books & Co. and the Treasure Cove Casino.
The fall lineup includes Brandon Isaak and the Small Town Playboys (Oct. 24 and 25) and Kenny 'Blues Boss' Wayne (Nov. 21 and 22). Paul Kype and Texas Flood take to the Treasure Cove stage Jan. 30 and 31.
"As much as possible we try to use our local talents (alongside the main acts)," Krushelnicki said.
With any luck, Diana Braithwaite and Chris Whiteley -- headliners at the inaugural Railway Blues Festival last year -- will be here in the spring.
